It is evident from our study that Arg72Pro SNP of TP53 gene is connected with higher susceptibility to thyroid cancer especially in young age group, female gender, non-smokers and patients with elevated TSH levels, hence, implicated in thyroid carcinogenesis.
Similar thus inconclusive results are observed in ovarian cancer, which may suggest that the rs1042522 does not influence ovarian carcinogenesis directly, but might be linked to another pathogenic alteration.
In case-only analysis, the homozygous p73 G4C14-to-A4T14 variant of p73 genotype was associated with the presence of the p53 exon 4 Arg72Pro allele (OR = 1.30, 95% CI, 1.02-1.64), which is suggestive of a biological interaction between the two genes in carcinogenesis.
Polymorphism of p53 gene codon72 arginine (Arg)/proline (Pro) (rs1042522) may influence the function of p53 protein and then affect the processing of carcinogenesis.
These findings suggest that under at least some conditions, the modulation of apoptosis by the R72P polymorphism does not affect the process of carcinogenesis.
So, as to find the association of p53Arg 72 Pro towards lung carcinogenesis and overall survival of North Indian lung cancer patients, single nucleotide polymorphic variant (rs1042522) was analyzed.
We conducted a case-control study to examine whether two polymorphisms (i.e., rs4938723 in the promoter of pri-miR-34b/c and TP53 Arg72Pro) were linked to the carcinogenesis of cervical cancer among Chinese Han women.
